Opera Under the Stars and then under the roof……
It was a slow week because we spent most of our time when we were not teaching or preparing to teach, resting, still trying to get over this terrible flu. We still are so out of energy that our teaching assignments just exhaust us. We can see improvement each day, but we are a long ways from back to normal. The only activity we had this week was the concert “Opera Under the Stars”. We had paid $100 (tala) for tickets so we didn’t want to miss it and we had not heard classical music for a long time. Gramma was in dire need of hearing great music. It was good. The first pictures are of the stage and then looking back from our seats. We went early so we could pick good seats.
Here is Gramma with the Goodlets waiting.
We knew we would be waiting so we brought a lunch to share.
Here we are on the red carpet. The picture is a little fuzzy, but that is about how we have felt with this flu. They then they lit up the stage.
They finally got started, but it started to rain, so they decided to move everyone inside the fale. There was not as many people there as they expected (part of the reason is they raised their prices to $100 from the $30 they charged last year).
Inside and close to the stage they did not need the sound system and all the performances were acoustical which made them even better. Of the four singers three were Samoan, though they lived in New Zealand, one was Tongan, and they all were very good. Here is the Tongan, then the other performers.
The pianist was from Korea and was excellent, but for some reason my picture of him didn’t work. Gramma wanted to get on stage and play a real piano, it has been a long time since she was able to do that. The last Picture is the director and the master of ceremonies. He was some kind of coral director for the vocal music in “Lord of the Rings”.
That’s it, about all we could muster for the week, but the Lord gave us the strength to accomplish our assignment and as we recover we are going to be more appreciative of good health. Love you all, love your emails, and Gramma got a little home sick this week. When you don’t feel good you know the best place to recover is at home. Things will improve and we will go forward and hopefully we will have a little more excitement this coming week. The Gospel is true, Sofa Soifua, Grampa and Gramma Hammond
