Lost Trip

Talofa,

This blog is entitled lost trip because of the picture we took on our Saturday afternoon drive that we got sort of lost. First though, Linnea is fascinated with the birds here in Samoa. She has been trying to take some pictures to send to Taft. I had to delete most of them because you can’t see the birds. For example, below find the missing bird (bottom picture). See it is like looking for Waldo. The top picture is “bird on line” but you can’t tell much about it.

The next two pictures is a monument to President McKay’s trip to Sauniatu. I wish the road was in a good of shape as the monument.

We left at 4:00 on Saturday in the afternoon and started around the west side, passed the airport and the ferry to Savai’i stop. A little ways further I took a picture of the islands of Apolima and Manono looking towards Savai’i.

Here is a picture of a Catholic Church in one of the villages. They are always big and colorful. Usually not in this good of shape.

Here is a typical village we were entering. Those concrete blocks are graves. They bury many family members in their front yards and build monuments to the deceased.  Next is a colorful house, see the open air fale next to it, that is where the spend a lot of time.

Here is looking back at the coast at the many villages. The second is looking the other direction to the east. This is where after a mile on the road we were puzzled on where we were exactly. We passed many beautiful places, but were so concerned about getting home before dark we didn’t take any pictures. We will go back, because I want to see them again and I want figure out exactly where we went wrong!
We start our first class next Monday and Tuesday, we are cramming hard to be prepared. Linnea is still a little under the weather having gotten sick on some Samoan food. I told her she wasn’t bullet proof. I will eat a little of it but I am a lot more careful that she has been. It is great to see all the Church is doing here. We miss home, but how can you complain about being in paradise, living next to a temple, and doing your part of building the Kingdom. The Gospel is true and love you all.
